- The history and future of Europe is in railways. Railways are socio-technical systems, which have had and still have a wide-ranging influence on the landscape, economy, society and culture of the regions. However only the technical aspects are usually studied widely.

- The seminar is devoted to the benefits of interaction between Finnish, British, Chinese and Russian experts of railway history and culture. The researchers will have the opportunity to present their work and have time for discussion and collaboration.

- In Kouvola, the capital of South-East-Finland and a
central hub of road and rail transport.
